People come to GROW with diverse problems in living, including serious mental health concerns, emotional troubles, and difficulty coping with grief, loneliness, anxiety or stress. And those who attend the groups come from many backgrounds, cultures, beliefs and life experiences.
The goal of GROW is recovery and personal growth, and the name “GROW” represents this goal. Recovery and personal growth are, after all, one continuously active process that is common to all humanity.
GROW groups are open to everyone, irrespective of their problem. Some people come to GROW with a diagnosis of mental illness, others with a problem such as depression, loneliness or difficulty coping. No problem in living is too great or too small.
Some members of GROW have never received professional help, while others have or are receiving some form of professional mental health care. This might include counseling, psychiatric medication, and/or hospitalization.
Members are expected to deal directly with their doctors regarding all aspects of their medical care, including their medication. Furthermore, it is the policy of GROW to respect doctor-patient integrity and not to interfere with this professional relationship.
